Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Senior Trade Commissioner is responsible for the following work for all countries of accreditation (Romania, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova):
Advises Canadian companies – clients of the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) – about legal aspects, trade practices, commercial patterns and customs in Romania; responding to inquiries from Canadian exporters, investors or service providers that are related to trade promotion;
Develops extensive contact base, initiating new and strengthening existing relationship and contributing towards building Canada-Romania/Moldova/Bulgaria linkages;
Participates in the development of sector-specific annual planning, budget allocation and reporting;
Engages in supporting and acting as lead on targeted outreach activities, events and official visits related to trade promotion;
Prepares timely, succinct, well-informed and well-written analysis and reports on key commercial issues.

Essential qualifications
Education:
University degree from a recognized university in commerce, marketing, business administration, international trade, engineering or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
Language:
Fluency in Romanian (oral & written)
Fluency in English (oral & written)
Experience
Extensive* and recent** experiences in:
Advising and facilitating information services to clients in the area of business development.
Analyzing issues and providing strategic advice to key decision-makers.
Developing and managing networks with clients, partners or stakeholders.
Planning and executing business development projects.
* Extensive experience is understood to mean the depth and breadth of the experience normally associated with having performed various, related and complex activities for a minimum of 3 years.
** We mean by “recent experience” an experience acquired within the past 5 years.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of Romanian’s leading commercial sectors.
Knowledge of Canadian economy and priorities.
Abilities

Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:

Knowledge of Bulgaria’s and Moldova’s commercial bilateral relationships with Canada.

Organizational Needs:
Ability to travel to meet clients and stakeholders, including for events and training courses

Conditions of Employment:

Position is subject to a probation period
